Local Special Bodies (LSBs) are boards or councils in the city, municipal and provincial local government units whose purpose is to aid in policy-making, plan formulation and monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of PPAs in the aforementioned levels of LGUs. There are six (6) specifically mentioned under R.A. 7160 otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (Administrative Order No. 270 – Prescribing the Implementing Rules and Regulations of the Local Government Code of 1991). They are:
- Local School Board – Sections 98-101 of R.A. 7160, Article 63 (d), Rule XII of A.O. No. 270, Section 110-113 of B.A.A. 49
- Local Health Board – Sections 102-105 of R.A. 7160 and Article 63 (c), Rule XII of A.O. No. 270
- Local Development Council – Sections 106-115 of R.A. 7160 and Article 63 (a), Rule XII of A.O. No. 270
- Local Peace and Order Council – Section 116 of R.A. 7160 and Article 63 (e), Rule XII of A.O. No. 270
- People’s Law Enforcement Board (PLEB) – Article 63 (f), Rule XII of A.O. No. 270
- Local Prequalification, Bids and Awards Committees – Article 63 (b), Rule XII of A.O. No. 270
The term is also now loosely used to refer to other such councils/boards/committees in the LGU whose creation and legal basis are provided in other laws and issuance, to include:
- Local Anti-Drug Abuse Councils
- Local Council for the Protection of Children
- Local Committee on Anti-Trafficking and VAWC
- Local Nutrition Council
- Local Solid Waste Management Board
- Local Agricultural and Fishery Council
